We purchased the Chefman Grind and Brew coffee maker so our reviewer could put it to the test. Read on for our full product review.

There are a number of coffee tools to help you make good coffee at home. Some of these items include great-tasting water, measuring instruments, and perhaps one of the most important tools: a grinder.

The grinder is especially necessary for home brewing because it allows you to store the bean's whole bean until the time you plan to brew coffee.

This keeps your beans fresher for longer. as ground grains start to harden much faster than whole grains.

The Chefman Grind and Brew coffeemaker offer users the ability to grind their beans and prepare their coffee with its built-in grinder.

Over the course of several weeks, I tested this machine and tested its grinder, setup, cleanability, and overall performance. Read on to see what I found.

Design: unique and compact design

The Chefman Grind and Brew coffee maker has a unique design that is shaped like a rectangle. The grinder lives on top of the machine and the machine jar is completely located inside the machine.

This coffee maker is very compact, measuring 7 x 11.25 x 8 inches, making it easy to find a place for it on your kitchen counter or even store it in a cabinet.

It's also very lightweight, so I could easily move it around my kitchen and home if I wanted to move it to the home office for the day.

This coffee maker uses a blade grinder instead of a strawberry grinder, resulting in comparatively less consistent grind size.

This coffee maker is made of stainless steel with some black plastic accents. Overall, it is an attractive machine with a modern look.

There is a start button on the front and a dial that allows the user to select whether they are using whole bean grounds. It also offers the option of choosing the serving size from 1 to 4 cups.

The 10 Best Small Coffee Makers of 2021

Setup process: Quick setup

Setting up the Chefman Grind and Brew coffeemaker required washing of all removable parts, including the grinder lid, grinder basket, coffee filter, and carafe. After washing, I ran a 4 cup water cycle to prime the machine. This whole process took about 10 minutes, which seemed very fast.

To use the machine, I poured my water into the water tank located on the side of the machine, poured my whole beans into the grinder on top, replaced the grinder lid, selected the coffee yield setting on the dial, and pressed start.

The machine proceeded to grind the beans and immediately after this, it began to brew my coffee.

Yield: medium coffee, small yield

The Chefman Grind and Brew coffee maker has the ability to grind whole coffee beans just before brewing a batch of coffee.

However, I was not very impressed by the Chefman despite this feature. Part of the problem may be with the grinder itself. This coffee maker uses a blade grinder instead of a burr grinder, resulting in comparatively less consistent grind size.

This can greatly affect the taste of the coffee.

Knowing this, I gave the Chefman Grind and Brew coffeemaker a fair chance. I tested a variety of beans with this machine, from high-quality beans to less expensive beans. Ultimately, the coffee tasted pretty much the same every time.

It didn't really matter what kind of beans I used as it all ended up tasting very normal.

The Chefman Grind and Brew Coffeemaker may be an inexpensive option for an all-in-one coffee maker, but the grinder lacks the quality needed to really enhance the flavor of the resulting coffee.

In terms of customization, there are two options to adjust the amount of coffee the user wants to brew. There is also an option to select pre-ground if you don't have whole grains at home.

I tried all of these settings, using pre-ground coffee and whole beans, and again, I didn't find much difference in taste probably due to the poor quality grinder.

Another downside to this coffee maker is that it can only brew up to 4 cups of coffee at a time. This is not much coffee for a family. For a single house or a couple, it should be enough.

One bonus is that this coffee maker has a keep warm feature, which I always appreciate with a coffee maker. You can keep the coffee hot in the carafe for about 30 minutes.

This was a nice feature, so I could go back for my second cup, and it was still warm.

Ease of cleaning: difficult to clean the grinder area, only hand wash

This coffee maker is very difficult to clean. The coffee grinder and filter basket should be washed after each use.

First of all, I found that it was very difficult to remove the grinder basket from the machine.

Then getting into all the nooks and crannies of the basket was another challenge. It was convenient that the basket was removable, but it was still difficult to clean.

In addition, the jug must also be cleaned and washed by hand. The heating plate should also be cleaned regularly to avoid staining.

Price: economical

The Chefman Grind and Brew Coffeemaker is fairly inexpensive considering that it grinds beans in addition to brewing coffee. It sells for around $ 100, but you get what you pay for with this machine. The grinder is not of the best quality and as a result, the coffee is nothing special.

Chefman Grind and Brew Coffee Maker versus Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker

Breville The Grind Control: The Breville The Grind Control The coffeemaker also has a built-in grinder located on top of the machine.

It sells for much more than the Chefman at around $ 300. However, it is an investment worth the price if you want a high-quality all-in-one grinder and coffee maker.

It offers several options to customize your coffee and grinder. It also has a burr grinder that is said to be better than a blade grinder.

In this case, while the Breville is certainly more expensive, it offers a number of features that the Chefman lacks, making it well worth the investment.

Final verdict

Skip it, unless budget is a priority.

The Chefman Grind and Brew Coffeemaker may be an inexpensive option for an all-in-one coffeemaker, but the grinder lacks the quality needed to enhance the flavor of the resulting coffee. Skip this purchase, unless budget is a top priority, and invest in a coffee machine with a high-quality strawberry grinder.
